Wayne Dalton and the TorqueMaster spring

Many Wayne Dalton doors use the TorqueMaster system: the torsion spring sits inside a steel tube above the door instead of on an open bar. It looks tidier and keeps the coil out of sight, but it is serviced differently from a standard torsion spring and takes parts made for it.

Specialized service for Wayne Dalton's proprietary TorqueMaster enclosed spring system. We stock TorqueMaster-specific springs, cones, and tools for fast replacement.

Why it matters here
The tube keeps rain off the TorqueMaster spring, but damp salty air still reaches the drums, cables and fasteners outside it. Source: ISO 9223:2012, Corrosion of metals and alloys: corrosivity of atmospheres.
Spring life
A regular-duty torsion spring carries an estimated life of 10,000 cycles. One cycle is one opening and one closing of the door. Source: Prime-Line regular-duty garage door torsion spring product specification.
What holds up
Galvanized cables and drums, and the outside hardware cleaned and lubricated at each tune-up.

Wayne Dalton questions

Can a broken TorqueMaster spring be replaced?

Yes. The spring is replaced inside its tube with TorqueMaster parts and the door rebalanced. Torsion spring work starts from $200. It isn't a homeowner job: leave the door closed and call.

Call (650) 777-8776.

How do I know if my Wayne Dalton door has a TorqueMaster spring?

Look above the door: a closed round steel tube running the width of the door, with no visible coil, is a TorqueMaster. An open bar with a coiled spring is a standard torsion system.

Should I repair or replace my garage door?

Repair it when one part has failed and the door still runs straight. A common repair starts from $150. Replace it when several sections are damaged, the bottom panels have rusted through, or the repair would cost close to a new door, which starts from $1,000 installed. Coastside Garage Door prices both options on the same visit.
